Best described as a sound somewhere between the Beach Boys and Nirvana, Pirates Alive are a garage-rock band from the Gold Coast that infuse a grungey flavor with their sun-bleached surf style.. A mix that is turning heads in the local music scene.

The three-piece consists of Michael Cottrell, Jarryd Inns and Sam Dunlop, three mates from school who share a passion for surfing and music. Their sound draws on influences from bands such as The Black Lips, Wavves and The Hives.. Plenty of punchy surf-riffs, washy flower-punk lyrics, raw breakdowns and dirty guitar solos.

After forming late 2010 and naming their band after a ‘Lords of Dogtown’ reference, Pirates Alive have been lucky enough to take part in Triple J and Independent Music Project’s “100 Songs in 100 Hours,” have their tracks played on various radio stations including Triple J and its new Unearthed channel, and have played at various festivals such as Brisbane’s 2011 Valley Fiesta, Gold Coast’s BLEACH Surf Festival and played to their biggest crowd yet at Gold Coast’s 2012 Big Day Out.

The three have played shows right down the east coast, and have partied on stage with some awesome acts such as The Death Set, Goons of Doom, Velociraptor, Dune Rats, Millions and many others. Their sound is all about jumping round, having fun and not taking shit too seriously.....
